Day 7: In Bruges

Day 7: In Bruges

Today we had a less structured day...no advance tickets purchased! So, we slept in until 7:30 and had a nice leisurely breakfast of waffles and hot chocolate at Mokafe. Then, we hopped on a train to Bruges.

We arrived in the charming city of Bruges around 10am and headed to The Chocolate Crown for some yummy stir your own hot chocolate. Fun stuff.

Then it was off to the torture museum which was pretty intense, but also fascinating.

We strolled around the Markt area a bit and then headed to lunch at De Halve Maan Brewery. This brewery is interesting in that the installed a beer pipe under the city to transport their beer from the brewery to their bottling facility. Fascinating! We had a yummy lunch of Flemish beef stew cooked in a dark beer sauce overlooking the canals!

Now it was time to buy the Belgian chocolates!!! We hit up two stores, The Chocolate Line and Dumon and got a few treasures at each. Such amazing and beautiful chocolates.

We strolled back to the train station thru a lovely park and boarded a train back to Brussels.

Once back in Brussels we tried to make it to the local brewery before it closed, so we ran from the south station to the brewery and arrived 10 minutes before closing, but the bar was already closed. So we didn't get to taste their brews. :( Bummer! But, we did make it to a beer store to buy a little something to bring home and then one more chocolate shop, Laurent Gerbuad. I just wanted to try a few pieces so after about 10 minutes, I picked out 3 chocolates and the guy said they were on him! Free chocolates! Best.

Then, we spent some time relaxing in our hotel before dinner. We found a cute place called Nuetnigenough where we had yummy meatballs and duck shepherd's pie and we got to try the beer from the brewery we missed. Then, we checked out Little Delirium Cafe for more beer and stopped at Brewdog since it was next to our hotel.

It was another busy day, but a great one!

  1. All I can say is "chocolate"! Looks amazingly delicious! The canals with the buildings look very scenic. I don't know how you are getting so much in each day! Have to be sleeping well!! Enjoy!
