Michael and Alison's day kicked off with a refreshing run to Jardin do Palacio de Cristal, a local park in Porto. As they jogged, they were treated to breathtaking views of the city, the Douro River, picturesque gardens, and so many peacocks! Linda enjoyed a leisurely morning including an early morning walk in the city.
Our next stop was the train station where we embarked on a 3-hour and 30-minute train ride from Porto to Lisbon. Upon arrival in Lisbon, we made a beeline for our Airbnb. However, we soon discovered that our chosen Airbnb was located up an extensive flight of steep steps, which wouldn't suit our three-day stay in the city. Swiftly, Alison and Michael found alternative lodging in an apartment for the next two nights, minimizing our stay at the less-than-ideal Airbnb to just one night.
With accommodation sorted, we embarked on a visit to a local market, where a variety of crafts enticed our attention. Linda couldn't resist picking up several items for herself and friends in New Mexico.
Our next adventure involved negotiating a deal with a tuk-tuk driver for a 60-minute tour of the old part of Lisbon. We explored the Alfama and Castelo areas, marveling at cathedrals, religious sites, archaeological wonders, funiculars, trams, and a few Miradores, offering panoramic views from the city's high points.
After the tour, we indulged in a traditional Portuguese dinner at Mesa de Frades, followed by an enchanting performance of Fado music, a quintessential Lisbon experience. While the dinner was borderline satisfactory, the music left a lasting impression.
