Mountain time

After our two days on the islands, it was time to head back to the mainland. We had an 8am ferry to Volos. We picked up pastries (of course) and headed to the ferry terminal. This time we knew exactly what boat we needed and made sure not to get on any other one! These things dock, unload, and load within a matter of minutes!

It was a fast 1 hour 45 minutes to Volos and a bit rocky, but we made it! Once we arrived in Volos we took a taxi to the mountain village of Portaria. We stayed at Pelion Resort…it even had its own pool.

Our room wasn’t ready when we checked in, so we ventured out to find the Centaur’s Path hiking trail. This region is apparently the home of the centaurs from Greek mythology. The hike was amazing, cool, and magical. A great way to kill an hour. Even though we were exhausted. The path happened to lead us right back to our hotel, so it was perfect!

After check-in, we ventured into the city for some lunch at a place called Cafe Crepes. The menu was lol in Greek, so we did our best at ordering based on what Google translate told us. Pepperoni pizza and two savory crepes and of course a chocolate crepe for Anna!

After lunch we had to hike back up the hill to our hotel. We all took a nap after that.

When we woke up, Anna headed to the pool and Mike and Alison headed out for a hike to a neighboring village. The hike was beautiful! We stopped for some sweets half way (about 20 minutes in) and then stilled through the village and found a place to have a drink and take in the view. It was perfect!

When we got back to town, Alison picked up some tea at a local tea shop and then Anna met us at the bottom of the hill for dinner at Krista. We all agreed it was our favorite dinner of the trip! So yummy!!

Greek mountain tea! Anna loved it. We bought her some to take home.

A nice, relaxing, quiet day in the mountains! Definitely one of Anna’s favorite days of the trip!
